China-Laos Mohan-Boten economic zone scores fast in development

The Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone between China and Laos in Southwest China's Yunnan province achieved leapfrog development in fixed-asset investment, foreign trade and investment promotion in 2022.

Data showed that the zone registered a 9.8-percent growth in fixed-asset investment. The total volume of its foreign trade rose by 98.99 percent to 43.34 billion yuan ($6.38 billion) in 2022.

Last year, the zone attracted investments of 146 million yuan, over half of which came from investors from outside Yunnan.

The number of enterprises registered in the zone increased to 918 in 2022.

A new administrative service center, which is located in Mohan Railway Station, opened in  2022. It comprises 43 administrative service windows and 24-hour self-service machines.

In addition, the Administrative Committee of the Mohan-Boten Economic Cooperation Zone strengthened its efforts to build support facilities geared toward new industries and create a pool of reserve projects.

So far, the project pool has nurtured 83 reserve projects with prospective investments of 62.5 billion yuan.

In the years ahead, the zone will intensify its efforts to promote the development of cross-border logistics between China and Laos, cross-border tourism and healthcare, processing and manufacturing of foreign trade, and financial services toward Southeast Asia.

It will also focus its investment promotion on key areas of precious metal processing, the processing of import goods, the manufacture of electronic information products for export, textile, bio-medicine, and special as well as high-end tourism & healthcare.
