Chenggong district spurs growth in raspberry industry

The raspberry industry in Chenggong district, Kunming, Yunnan province is thriving thanks to an "internet + agriculture + tourism" model.

At a raspberry picking base, visitors are treated to a scenic landscape where rows of red and black raspberries grow amid lush green foliage. The base also offers an immersive rural experience, with hydrangea-lined paths, goats and rabbits and recreational amenities, including tent camping, barbecue facilities, KTV, and sand play areas, providing a perfect retreat for families.

"Since the opening of the sightseeing and picking garden in May this year, we have welcomed over 30,000 visitors," said Wu Diyun, head of the raspberry base.

A comprehensive industry chain has been established by a local company, covering seedling research, fresh fruit cultivation, agritourism and raspberry processing. Products are marketed and sold online, with logistics ensuring nationwide delivery.

The company's promotional efforts are supported by eight livestream hosts, who use internet platforms to drive traffic and sales. Since May 2024, this model has generated over 6 million yuan ($843,636) in revenue.

In addition, the base has encouraged more than 30 enterprises and individuals nationwide to develop their own raspberry farms.
