Youth Maker Camp participants explore flower economy in Dounan

More than 350 participants in the 8th "Belt and Road" Youth Maker Camp explored the vitality and charm of the Dounan Flower Market in the Chenggong district of Kunming, Yunnan province on July 27.

The Dounan Flower Market, the largest fresh cut flower trading market in Asia, sells tens of billions of flowers to more than 50 countries and regions anually, including Japan, Poland, Russia and South Korea.

Students and teachers on the camp traveled to witness the vibrant flower trading activities at the market. They also visited the Kunming International Flower Auction and Trading Center, and learned about the entire industry chain process, from flower seedling cultivation to auctions. The immersive experience provided insights into Dounan's technological innovations in the flower industry.

The event, which was organized by a number of bodies including the Yunnan Provincial Association for Science and Technology, was focused on countries involved in the "Belt and Road" initiative.

Building on this event, the district's science and technology association aims to expand its vision and strategies. Plans include promoting key projects such as the Baozhu Pear Science and Technology Courtyard and the provincial science popularization demonstration zone.

The camp's visit to Dounan has highlighted the importance of international collaboration and innovation in the flourishing flower economy.
