With flower planting areas about 1.5 million hectares and flower employees of more than 5 million people, China has become the world's largest flower producer. By 2035, China will basically build a complete flower industry system and strive for annual sales of more than 700 billion yuan($97.24 billion).

In recent years, China's fresh cut flower production has been increasing steadily. The fresh cut flower production in Yunnan, as the main producing area, has been maintaining high growth.

It is said that 70 percent of the fresh cut flowers in China are produced in Yunnan. The Dounan Flower Market in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan, has made great contributions to Yunnan's flower industry by relying on the huge transaction volume and trading volume.

At present, the flower industry of China is in the key stage of transformation from high-speed development to high-quality development. The National Flower Industry Development Plan (2022-2035) jointly issued by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs proposed that by 2035, China should realize the modernization of the flower industry and strive for the annual sales of flowers to exceed 700 billion yuan. Qian Chongjun, executive president of Yunnan Dounan Flower Industry Group, said that Dounan flower market has taken on the major mission to achieve this goal.

He said, "Since the year before last, Yunnan has been the largest flower producing area in the world, and about 75 percent of the flowers produced in Yunnan are traded in Dounan Flower Market. In China, Yunnan’s wholesale flowers accounted for more than 50 percent of sales. Yunnan's flowers will grow from 17.4 billion to 70 billion, and the annual trading volume will rise from more than 10 billion in the present to 50 to 60 billion. This is a historical mission."
