According to Mohan checkpoint, over 100,000 from 75 countries and regions have used the China-Laos Railway international passenger service as of Dec 5.

The 1,035-km railway, a flagship project within the framework of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, connects China's southwestern city of Kunming with the Laotian capital of Vientiane.

Since starting operation on April 13, the convenience of the service has seen it become the top travel choice for passengers traveling between the two cities.

In addition, with a reduction in customs clearance time since July, the trip from Kunming to Vientiane has been shortened by 1 hour to 9 and a half hours.

With the recovery of the tourism market, Yunnan, as a major tourist destination, the China-Laos Railway not only facilitates domestic travelers going abroad but also provides transportation support for more foreign tourists to visit China.

"Traveling by train between Laos and China is not only convenient in terms of customs clearance but also offers beautiful scenery along the way and a comfortable environment inside the train. It brings immense joy, and the best part is that it is faster and more convenient than before,” said a Laotian tourist visiting China.

Moreover, the range of cross-border goods has expanded dramatically from about 10 to over 2,700, including electronics, photovoltaics, and automobiles.

To enhance the facilitation of port clearance, the Mohan border checkpoint is actively leveraging technology to enable efficient and rapid clearance. In the inspection and verification area, the station has deployed intelligent language translation devices to assist travelers using different languages. These devices can provide real-time translation of over 70 languages.
