Kunming embraces 8 cultural, tourism projects

During the 2023 China International Travel Mart (CITM) in Kunming, a tourism and cultural industry investment promotion meeting was organized by the Kunming government on Nov 18.

Over 60 tourism companies attended the conference to discuss the investment environment and extensive development prospects in Kunming. Eight cultural and tourism projects have signed agreements with the city and its resort areas.

Kunming, renowned as the Spring City, has a temperate climate year-round which makes it a great place for leisure, vacation, residence, health, and sports.

With captivating natural beauty, cultural diversity, food, it is one of China's first 24 historical and cultural cities.

With its unique advantages, Kunming is among the first cities designated as a national model for cultural and tourism development, offering a diverse and enriching tourism experience.

Positioned strategically, Kunming serves as a vital gateway for China to engage with South Asia and Southeast Asia, making it a frontier hub for the Belt and Road Initiative.

Ma Qian, head of the Kunming Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, said that Kunming's accelerated development of the cultural and tourism industry has well-supported conditions. It boasts a synergy in comprehensive transportation, sound industrial foundation, abundant resources, excellent ecological environment, and high-level opening up.

Kunming will continue to implement a series of favorable measures introduced by the national, provincial, and municipal governments for enterprises, providing  optimal services, he added.

In recent years, Kunming has seen fruitful results in achieving high-quality development in cultural and tourism. From January to October, the city received a total of 247 million tourists, marking a year-on-year growth of 29.57 percent. By 2025, the total number of tourists is expected to surpass 365 million, achieving a total tourism revenue exceeding 500 billion yuan($69.65 billion).
