Located in the southwest part of the main urban area of Kunming, Xishan district is home to a renowned national scenic area which boasts the beauty of lakes, mountains and landscapes.
It encompasses 112 square kilometers of the Dianchi Lake, a 72-kilometer shoreline along Dianchi Lake, and 20,000 acres of lakeside ecological wetlands with lush grass and vibrant birdlife. Additionally, there are over 5,000 acres of forest parks in the area.
It has an average annual temperature of 15.9°C, forest coverage rate of 54 percent. The air quality reaches an excellent rate of 100 percent.
Xishan district is also one of the birthplaces of modern industry in China, boasting several significant "firsts" in its industrial history. It witnessed the establishment of China's first hydroelectric power station, the first bare copper wire, the first telescope, the first penicillin, the introduction of the first semi-mechanized artificial brick kiln.
