The Kunming Flower International Forum of Kunming Action – International Cooperation on Green Development took place in Jinning district in September.
It was the first time Kunming hosted an international forum with a focus on the flower industry. Representatives from chambers of commerce and flower companies from countries such as the Netherlands, Japan, and Belgium engaged in in-depth exchanges with over 20 flower companies from Kunming to explore potential business opportunities.
Known as the "city of eternal spring" due to its consistently pleasant climate, Kunming has long regarded flowers as its symbol. At the same time, the economic, cultural, social, and ecological values of flowers also make them a distinctive international brand of Kunming.
In 2022, Kunming's flower trade volume reached 35.6 billion yuan (about $4.87 billion), with the e-commerce transaction growth rate exceeding 20 percent for five consecutive years. With the support of platforms such as the China-Laos Railway, the China (Yunnan) Free Trade Pilot Zone and Mohan Port, Kunming's flowers have been sold to over 60 countries and regions worldwide. The export share of fresh-cut flowers accounts for over 40 percent of the national total.
Currently, Kunming is planning to establish the Kunming International City Alliance for Flowers. In addition to further integrating domestic and foreign resources to make high-quality flowers go global, Kunming will also implement the design of "flowers + cuisine", "flowers + ethnic minority culture" and "flowers + intangible cultural heritage" to contribute to Kunming's international cooperation platform, making flowers the "business card" of Kunming's international profile.
