Shanghai Cooperation Organization comes together for poverty alleviation|Updated: September 11, 2023


On Sept 8, a phase-end summary event for poverty reduction and development training among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) took place in Jinning district, Kunming.

Designated to host poverty alleviation training programs for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Kunming officially hosted the SCO National Poverty Reduction and Development Training Course On December 27, 2022.

The training courses featured three main modules, focusing on youth innovation and entrepreneurship, green development, and precision poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. To date, over 200 professionals from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries have participated in the training through an online platform.


They have had the opportunity to study China's poverty reduction and alleviation experiences, as well as Kunming's rural revitalization practices, through which they have gained in-depth insights into industries such as Kunming's flower industry and highland specialty agriculture.

Li Zhongze, the person in charge of the International Cooperation and Training Promotion Project of the Overseas Agricultural Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that Kunming enjoys significant advantages in terms of location, industries, and policies.

As a national-level agricultural technology platform, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences will collaborate with the Kunming Municipal Foreign Affairs Office to give full play to existing resources and tap into potential resources to create a high-end customer talent base, an innovation platform, and a hub with high societal impact.


One of the attendees from India said, "Here, I have learned more about poverty alleviation knowledge and skills. Throughout the entire training process, I have witnessed the transformative power of information, teamwork, and experience sharing. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has truly emerged as a potential force for positive change in our region. I sincerely thank all the participants, trainers, and organizers who have contributed to the success of this training workshop. After today's event, we will carry a new sense of mission and commitment, working towards creating a more equitable and prosperous future for our region."

In her concluding remarks on behalf of the Kunming government, Zhang Xue expressed, "The SCO National Poverty Reduction and Development Training Course has achieved a significant milestone. We have heard the heartfelt reflections and insights from the representatives of the SCO course participants, and we have seen the opportunities and prospects for exchanges and cooperation between Kunming and SCO member countries."
