Since it began operation in December 2021, the China-Laos Railway has transported a total of 20.09 million passengers as of Aug 16. The domestic section within China transported 17.09 million passengers, while the international segment served 3 million passengers.
It has effectively catalyzed the growth of port economies, cross-border tourism, and cultural exchanges, contributing to the advancement of the China-Laos Economic Corridor.
From Jan 1 to Aug 16 this year, the China-Laos Railway has operated over 13,000 passenger trains, reflecting a significant 22 percent year-on-year increase. During this period, a total of 11.2 million passengers were transported, showcasing a remarkable 101 percent year-on-year growth.
Located at Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, Mohan Station stands at the China-Laos border and represents the largest station along the entire China-Laos Railway route. The station boasts a continuous flow of trains and frequent passenger activity, portraying a scene of bustling activity.
Notably, since the launch of cross-border passenger train services on April 13 this year, a remarkable 53,000 travelers from 53 countries and regions have utilized the high-speed trains departing from Mohan Station to embark on cross-border journeys along the China-Laos Railway.
The China-Laos Railway, a landmark cooperation project part of the Belt and Road Initiative, began operation in December 2021. The 1,035-km railway connects China's Kunming with Vientiane in Laos.
