The inaugural Tengchong Scientific Award will be presented at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum, scheduled to take place from Dec 1 to 3. The award will be given to 1 to 3 individuals or teams, with each recipient receiving a prize of $1.5 million or 10 million yuan.
Chinese Academy of Sciences academician and Co-Chairman of the Tengchong Scientists Forum Rao Zihe said that the inaugural Tengchong Scientific Award will focus on various fields, such as biomedicine, biodiversity, ecological environment, modern agriculture, new materials, green energy, advanced manufacturing, and the digital economy.
The award aims to recognize global scientists who have achieved significant breakthroughs at the forefront of science and technology, advanced human scientific and technological progress, addressed major challenges through technological innovation, or achieved substantial economic or societal impact with their research outcomes.
The Tengchong Scientific Award adopts a nomination-invitation system and does not accept self-recommendations or applications. Nominators mainly include winners of major international awards, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians, foreign academicians, distinguished scholars from renowned universities, research institutions, and international academic organizations.
The nominated individuals' scientific achievements should be widely recognized within the domestic and international scientific community, and they should have made outstanding contributions to scientific progress without having received other major international awards, such as the Nobel Prize. The deadline for award nominations is August 31.
