As people seek respite from the summer heat, the tourism market in Yunnan thrives. The Stone Forest, a renowned landmark spot in the capital city of Kunming, witnessed an astounding influx of over 13,000 visitors exploring its beauty in just a single day on July 1st.
The Stone Forest (Shilin) started to form about 270 million years ago. It has been known for its remarkable karst landforms, as well as its magnificent, strange, and unique natural scenery.
According to statistics, the Stone Forest Scenic Area has seen a large increase in the number of tourists and tourism revenue.
The number of tourists in June has reached 228,800 people, a year-on-year increase of 132.2 percent. The tourism revenue was at 30 million yuan ($4.1million), which rose by 186.5 percent and 1.7 percent compared with 2022 and 2019, respectively.
In the first half of 2023, the total number of tourists has surged to 1.58 million, marking a remarkable year-on-year increase of 569.9 percent. Additionally, the tourism revenue for the six-month period reached approximately 207.7 million yuan, showing a significant growth of 661.0 percent compared to the first half of 2022.
