The top 10 popular destinations for family trips in China for the summer vacation are Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi’an, Urumqi, Guangzhou, Sanya, Hangzhou, Kunming and Chongqing, according to the 2023 Summer Booking Trend Insight Report released by Ctrip.
Yunnan province has seen an increase of 567 percent year-on-year in the summer trip order. Cross-provincial travel orders accounted for 90 percent, and family trip orders increased by 783 percent year-on-year.
According to the report, as of mid-June, cross-provincial travel and long-term travel have grown, with study tourism and family rural trips becoming much more popular. As of June 14, more than 70 percent of cross-provincial travel orders have been made; family trip orders accounted for more than 30 percent, increasing by 6 times year-on-year.
As for the price, the average price of domestic one-way air tickets including tax was 1,227 yuan($169.56), a year-on-year increase of 37.4 percent, and an increase of 15.7 percent over the May Day period. Since June, the number of summer charter inquiries has risen by about 20 percent compared with normal days.
The summer market in 2023 is expected to fully exceed the same period in 2019.
