The number of tropical fruits imported to China through the China-Laos Railway is rising — boosting international trade and satisfying the taste buds of Chinese diners.
The railway transported 23,000 metric tons of imported fruit valued at 560 million yuan ($78.5 million) from December last year to June 1, when a train carrying 740 tons of durian and mangosteen from Thailand reached Kunming, Yunnan province, after 26 hours. The fruit was transferred to fruit markets across the country.
To improve transport efficiency, the local authorities have streamlined the process to shorten the dwell time and secure freshness.
Peak season for imported tropical fruit from Southeast Asia will go to the end of June, with an expected total of more then 30,000 tons.
