Dragon boat racing to open on Dianchi Lake

It was announced at a press conference on June 8, that 11th China University Dragon Boat Championships and the 2nd Kunming Dianchi International Dragon Boat Racing will be held from June 16 to 18 on Dianchi Lake in Kunming, Yunnan province.

As many as 108 dragon boat teams from home and abroad signed up for the competition.

This event features three categories: the open category (15 teams from 8 countries and regions including China, Germany, Russia, Belarus, Panama, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and Pakistan), the college category (75 dragon boat teams from 42 colleges and universities from China), and the local and enterprise category (18 dragon boat teams from Yunnan province and enterprises).

This year, the number of participating teams is the highest on record, and has the largest number of participants and the largest number of starting pistols in the history of similar events in China.

Kunming is a world-renowned "spring city" owing to its climate. In recent years, the city has hosted many international conferences and important events, such as the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), the China-South Asia Expo, and the SCO Kunming Marathon.

The event aims to help promote traditional Chinese culture and showcases Kunming as a truly livable city.
