The China-Laos Railway started cross-border passenger services on April 13, with the first passenger train departing from Kunming, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan province, and heading for the Lao capital Vientiane.
The launch of the cross-border passenger services is a move expected to boost regional connectivity, as the China-Laos Railway is a docking project between the Belt and Road Initiative and Laos' strategy to convert itself from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub.
The China-Laos Railway, which began operation in December 2021, has offered domestic passenger services, while trains regularly carry freight across the Laos-China border.
