During the past few years, Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, has done utmost efforts to add more green lands, especially pocket parks which are small gardens and green areas at street corners, industrial zones and between apartment complexes.
This year, the city is set to construct another 100 pocket parks in a drive to further enhance a public sense of fulfillment and happiness.
It is also looking to plant 11.82 million trees and launch online activities such as the "Kunming Voluntary Tree Planting Network", so that the public can participate in voluntary tree planting.
Some 45 native tree species such as Yunnan Pine, Yunnan Glauca, Huashan Pine and Yunnan Catalpa will be planted in different areas, and more than 3,500 mu lands will be voluntarily planted in 16 plots. Moreover, 3.78 million people are encouraged to participate in the nationwide voluntary tree planting activity.
The wetland areas of Dianchi Lake have already become an ideal place for many wild birds to capture food and take a rest. To date, there are over 60,000 birds of 175 species, including 14 second-class wild bird species under State-level protection.
Data from online service platform Meituan showed that about 3,111 people in Kunming have achieved the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by one ton via its bike-sharing and e-bike sharing services, a 17-fold increase from a year earlier.
Meituan said that its bike-sharing and e-bike sharing users totally contributed to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 34,525 tons in 2022. In addition, the number of people using ride sharing has been surging since this March.
A green and low-carbon demonstration project was launched on April 6 in Kylin Incubation Base for Small and Medium-sized Sci-tech Enterprises affiliated with Anning Industrial Park.
With a total investment of 116 million yuan ($16.8 million), it was designed to build smart driving cabins, energy-controlled center and green & smart platforms, integrate the philosophies of green and low-carbon development with energy and resource utilization, infrastructure building, the operation and management of industrial parks, and explore new paths for green and low-carbon development of industrial sectors.
