Dounan Flower Market, located in Kunming City, Southwest China's Yunnan province, is the largest fresh cut flower market in Asia.
A barometer of China's flower industry, the Dounan Flower Market exports fresh cut flowers to more than 40 countries and regions such as Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Over the first two months this year, the trade volume of the Kunming International Flora Auction Trading Center (KIFA) in Dounan continued to increase. The prices of single rose and other categories exceeded the prices of the same period in 2019.
Gu Chaofei, director of the Management Committee of Dounan International Flower Industry Park, said that during the Spring Festival period, the market sold around 77.56 million fresh cut flowers, worth over 100 million yuan ($14.69 million). The average daily number of tourists in the market exceeded 20,000. In addition, the KIFA's total auction volume reached 11.6 million during the festival.
"Wedding and opening ceremonies after the festival continue to drive the market, and the upcoming Valentine's Day will boost the market to a new peak," said Li Qian, auctioneer of the KIFA. Since the center started trading on Jan 24 this year, it saw an average daily trading volume of more than three million flowers, a turnover rate of 94 percent, and an average transaction price of 2.4 yuan per branch, Li added.
With the development of logistics, the transportation of flowers changed from ‘by road’ in the past to ‘by air’ or high-speed rail. S.F. Express has launched flower reservations and door-to-door delivery services based on big data forecasting and customer research.
In addition, the booming e-commerce, especially WeChat mini-programs and live broadcasts, has also greatly boosted the daily flower market.
