Kunming's high-tech companies rank first in Yunnan

Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, has ranked first in the province in terms of the number of high-tech companies, according to a press conference on the region’s technological innovation on February 8.

The number of high-tech enterprises in Kunming rose 25.29 percent on a yearly basis to 1,788 in 2022.

Last year, Kunming created a multi-tier cultivation mechanism for high-tech companies and built an incubation database for reserve high-tech enterprises. The database covers 991 state-level high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and 658 newly registered provincial-level high-tech SMEs.

Kunming saw an increase of 361 new high-tech companies and opened 18 expert work stations of academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 2022.

The city also saw the completion of 5,335 technological deals in 2022, up 59.97 percent year-on-year. Their transaction volume rose 1.69 times to 8.42 billion yuan (about $1.24 billion), the highest volume in the province.

In 2022, the city established 11 municipal-level bases for international technological cooperation, introduced over 500 items of globally leading technological findings, and exported more than 300 items of its technological results.
