Kunming receives over 9m visits during Spring Festival holiday

Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province, received over 9.11 million tourist visits during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, a year-on-year increase of 389.45 percent, according to the local bureau of culture and tourism on January 27.

Figures showed that its tourism revenue rose 156.68 percent year-on-year to roughly 6.25 billion yuan ($ 920.5 million) during the same period.

Meanwhile, the city's 33 main tourist attractions received about 1.63 million visits, up 115.34 percent year-on-year.

The top three tourist destinations in Kunming were the Stone Forest Scenic Area, Daguan Park and Colorful Yunnan • Ancient Dian Kingdom Culture Tourism Town respectively.

The number of group tours and visitors using local travel agencies stood at 2,670 and 63,353, up by 2,395.33 percent and 4,695.84 percent respectively over the same period last year.

Driven by a huge influx of tourists, the number of visitors who checked into local hotels and restaurants saw an annual increase of 144.63 percent, exceeding 1.1 million.

Nearly 1.68 million tourists spent the night in Kunming, up by 181.41 percent year-on-year. They brought in an cumulative 3.04 billion yuan in revenue for the city, a year-on-year increase of 83.72 percent.

The burgeoning development of homestays, inns, pubs, tea houses, art studios and bakeries has injected new vitality into the growth of rural tourism in Kunming, helping visitors better appreciate the region’s colorful ethnic and historical culture.
