The the China-Laos (Mohan-Boten) Special Economic Cooperation Zone in Mohan town, a far-flung town deep in the southern part of Southwest China's Yunnan province, will commence 13 projects with a total investment of 38.23 billion yuan($5.33 billion), and will complete an investment of 1.69 billion yuan within the year.

Such hefty investments will go into the industrial and agricultural sectors, urban building, supporting facilities and business complex.

The increasing investments are a result of efforts of Kunming’s government, which took over the border town in May to co-build an international port city. A total of 150 million yuan has been allocated to improve the zone’s infrastructure and update services to attract investment.

After the completion of the project, the service functions of the zone will be further improved, the business environment will be further optimized, and the pace of the construction of Mohan international port city will be enhanced.

To further stimulate market vitality and give the zone greater autonomy in reform and development, the Yunnan provincial government has decided to entrust the Kunming government and the zone’s committee to exercise 30 provincial-level administrative powers.
