As a key part of the Belt and Road Initiative and jointly built by China and Thailand, the China-Thailand Railway will be the first standard-gauge high-speed railway in Thailand. It is being built by a Chinese railway company.

The first phase of the project will connect Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima. The second phase of the project will be extended to Nongkai, an important trade town in the northeast, which is separated by a river from Vientiane, the capital of Laos. There, it will connect with the China-Laos Railway, making it capable of reaching Kunming via Boding, Laos and Mohan, China.

Nantapont is a 24-year-old interpreter at the railway. He studied Chinese and won the Belt and Road Initiative scholarship to study at the Tianjin Railway Vocational and Technical College. After graduation in 2019, he started working on the China-Thailand railway construction project.

"China has high-speed rail technology, but Thailand does not. Thailand will also have high-speed rail in the future. I hope that after studying in China, I can return to Thailand to apply what I have learned," he  said.

The China-Thailand Railway will not only help drive the prosperity and development of industries along the railway line, but  also promote regional connectivity.

China, Laos and Thailand will take the China-Laos Railway as an opportunity to promote logistics, trade and industry, and promote the connection of development of China, Laos, and Thailand.
