Kunming's agricultural product processing sector rakes in 121 billion yuan in 2021

The total output value of the agricultural product processing sector (excluding the tobacco industry) in Kunming, the capital city of southwest China's Yunnan province, grew by 1.72 percent year-on-year to hit 121.06 billion yuan($16.91 billion) in 2021, according to figures released by the Kunming Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The statistics also showed that Kunming's agricultural food processing raked in a combined 27.89 billion yuan in revenue, up 21.95 percent year-on-year, in 2021. The local beverage manufacturing sector registered an annual growth of 13.47 percent in the same year.

The total output value of 221 major agricultural product processing enterprises in Kunming reached 77.85 billion yuan in 2021, accounting for 64.31 percent of all relevant firms in the city.

Last year, agricultural product processing firms created about 291,677 employment opportunities in Kunming, and played a leading role in promoting rural revitalization and the industrialized development of the agricultural sector. It also accelerated the brand building of green foods, raised employment and household incomes of rural residents, and aided in poverty reduction.

Over the past few years, Kunming has fostered "6+2" key agricultural product processing sectors, which cover flowers, forestry and fruits, vegetables, mountainous husbandry, specialty aquatic products, herbal medicine and tea, coffee processing and fine processing. The city hasmade noticeable progress in the upgrading and restructuring of its agricultural product processing and the coordinated innovative development of relevant industries.

The city will push for the confirmation and approval of technological achievements made by local enterprises, promote smart manufacturing in the green food sector, provide firms with support in their technological upgrading and product innovation, and accelerate the building of technological upgrading projects.
