Kunming tofu banquets heat up the holiday

During Spring Festival, Qibuchang tofu banquets became a trend in Kunming, receiving about 14,100 customers and generating revenue of 900,000 yuan ($141,987).

Qibuchang community’s tofu dishes date back to the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644). At its peak in the 1980s, 300 of its 360 households were involved in the tofu business.

In recent decades, with innovative efforts by inheritors, Qibuchang tofu has seen the development of new dishes that are high in protein and provide other health benefits. These developments have been warmly welcomed by diners.

So far, Qibuchang has set up more than 30 tofu workshops, with average daily production of tofu exceeding 6,000 kilograms.

More than 10 tofu restaurants with more than 600 employees serve some 5,000 people daily, with an annual output value of tens of millions of yuan.
