Kunming ranks 28th among top 100 competitive China cities

According to the 2021 Top 100 China Cities in Comprehensive Competitiveness released by Di Consultancy on Dec 23, Kunming ranks 28th.

The research focuses on the key economic development indicators of cities, focusing on economic scale, development quality and efficiency, vitality, innovation, and resources sharing among 293 prefecture-level cities.

It aims to explore new methods to promote urban economic and social development.

Kunming ranks 28th in this list. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period(2016-20), Kunming's regional GDP increased by 40.6 percent, and its economic aggregate jumped from 17th to 12th in 2019 among provincial capitals. GDP per capita in 2020 exceeds 80,000 yuan ($12,500); general public budget revenue has increased from 50.22 billion yuan in 2015 to 65.05 billion yuan, an average annual increase of 5.3 percent.

Kunming’s economy is driven by green development and innovation and  the rapid rise of hydropower.
