A library dedicated to telling the history of Kunming recently opened to the public.

The library is home to over 30,000 books, archives, newspapers, literature and historical materials from the last century.

It is also home to letters, manuscripts and other materials from National SouthWest Associated University, a coalition established in Kunming between Nankai University in Tianjin and Peking and Tsinghua universities in Beijing during the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

"We spent five years gathering old books and things to achieve just one aim - that is,  passing on cultural tradition,” said a library staffer.

It is expected to serve as a place where readers and visitors can find and be inspired by old memories of the city’s past.
